Welcome to the MIBAP Monthly Minute

Welcome to the MIBAP Monthly Minute

We’re excited to introduce this new monthly update created just for our members. Each issue will give you a quick snapshot of the latest news, upcoming events, advocacy updates, and opportunities to connect with colleagues across Michigan. Our goal is to keep you informed, engaged, and equipped with the tools you need to continue promoting access to high-quality applied behavior analysis (ABA) services in our state.

Thank you for being part of MiBAP — together, we’re advancing the practice and impact of ABA in Michigan.

Presidential Note:

Thank you to all our members for the incredible work you do every day. Your dedication, advocacy, and partnership are the driving forces behind the progress we’re making together. With your ongoing commitment, MiBAP is able to champion ABA services and make a lasting impact for families throughout Michigan.

Warm regards,
Maggie

Executive Director Introduction:

I am honored to introduce myself as the new Executive Director of the Michigan Behavior Analysis Providers (MiBAP). While Jackie Timm will continue to support us behind the scenes, I will be managing MiBAP’s day-to-day operations and serving as your primary point of contact.

My background includes more than 25 years of leadership experience in nonprofit, higher education, and government settings. My work has focused on building partnerships, advancing equity and inclusion, overseeing multimillion-dollar budgets, and successfully managing state and federal grants. Most recently, I served as Director of the Center for Student Success at Kellogg Community College, where I led strategic initiatives to expand access, improve outcomes, and support diverse learners across Michigan. I have extensive experience in program management, organizational leadership, and policy advocacy, which I look forward to applying in service of MiBAP’s mission.

I am excited to join this community of dedicated professionals and to continue strengthening MiBAP’s voice as we advocate for high-quality ABA services across the state. I look forward to connecting with you in the months ahead and working together to build on MiBAP’s strong foundation.

Warm regards,
Holly McKee, PhD

Committee Updates

  • Severe Behavior Committee: A productive August meeting was held. Karoline Kenville, of Straith Hospital, attended and discussed reimbursement rates and the new inpatient unit she is developing. Our goal for the coming quarter is to identify a new chairperson as Ali Schroeder transitions out of this role. Contact membership@mibap.org if you would like to serve in this capacity. Additionally, the committee will continue to work on knowledge sharing and outcome measures for center-based severe behavior services.
  • Access and Advocacy Committee: The committee continues to meet to review current needs and barriers for MiBAP members. This past month, members worked together to send a letter to Saginaw CMH, highlighting several parity violations. The committee has also been in conversation about HB 5044 – ABA in Schools, introduced by Representative Pauline Wendzel, the challenges with private insurance, the DCW/97153 rates, and the looming 9/30/25 end date for the Michigan QBHP. We are continuously working towards ways to reduce barriers to access to quality care. For more information or to join this committee, contact chairperson Kristin G. Wier at kristinw@logancenter.org
  • Parity Committee: The MiBAP Parity Committee has identified three key goals for the coming months. If you would like to join these efforts, contact Chairperson Taylor Barker at taylor@ebbandflowaba.com
  • Expand parity enforcement across the state’s Community Mental Health agencies (CMHs) and Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHPs).
  • Strengthen collaboration with commercial funders to explore effective strategies for ensuring compliance with parity requirements.
  • Promote and increase engagement with the Parity Hotline available on the MiBAP website as a resource for members.
  • Education Committee: The Education Committee is hard at work planning MiBAP’s 2026 webinar series. We want these sessions to reflect the interests and needs of our membership. We’d love to hear from you if you have a topic or speaker in mind! Please share your ideas by emailing membership@mibap.org and help us shape another year of learning together.

In the meantime, mark your calendars for the final 2025 webinars:

    • November 19, 12:00–1:00 PM – Topic: Misinformation
    • December 8, 12:00–1:00 PM – Topic: Round Table

Calendar invitations with Microsoft Teams links for these sessions will be sent out soon. We hope you can join us!

  • Membership Committee: Exciting news from the Membership Committee . . . Jenipher Swanson has graciously agreed to serve as our new chair! We are so grateful for her leadership and enthusiasm. The committee is also looking to grow, and this is a great opportunity to get involved, connect with colleagues, and help strengthen MiBAP’s network. If you’re interested in joining, we’d be thrilled to welcome you! Email membership@mibap.org
