From the President

We are happy to see the increased engagement in our committees and workgroups over the last year. Having many minds working together allows us to do more for our field and community. Thank you to everyone who has helped us get to where we are and those that continue to push us forward.

Access Committee Update

We have reviewed barriers to current access of quality services for clients in the state of Michigan. An additional barrier identified is lack of providers to diagnose autism across payors for the state of Michigan. Some families are waiting months to years for an assessment. The continued barriers are access to quality RBT level providers and funds to help cover increased labor and supply costs. There was a brief meeting on 7/21/23. We plan to have an additional meeting soon.

Advocacy Committee Update

May thanks to all those who participated in our recent survey of membership issues/concerns. This information has been reviewed and prioritized. The information will inform our agenda when meeting with MDHHS and Legislators. You do not need to wait for the next survey if significant issues arise as we are always ready to listen, learn and lead. The Advocacy Committee is always open to new members. It is as simple as emailing the MiBAP office. Have a great summer!

Education Committee Update

The Education Committee has been busy planning webinars for the year. The next webinar is scheduled for August 30th, “Lunch N’ Share with MIBAP-Insurance Roundtable”. You can learn more and register below. If you are interested in joining this committee or have webinar topic ideas, please email membership@mibap.org.

Quality Committee Update

The Quality Committee is currently continuing its collaboration with Dr. Bryant Silbaugh. With participation from the Quality Committee, Dr. Silbaugh is submitting an application to start a Quality-oriented Special Interest Group (SIG) with Applied Behavior Analysis International (ABAI). The QC’s monthly meetings continue to explore the definitions of quality as well as outcomes measures that are increasingly tied to the concept. Ongoing developments with these discussions will continue to be shared with member organizations during all-member meetings.

Membership Committee Update

We are still recruiting members to join our committee! Email membership@mibap.org to get the link to join. Thank you to everyone who filled out our 2023 membership survey! We appreciate your feedback. We are working on adding an individual affiliate membership option. More to come! MiBAP will be at MAC and we are excited to see all of you!
