From the President

Happy New Year to all of our members! This quarterly newsletter provides a recap of 2023, as well as updates on current activities for the association. It’s been a busy year! I am honored to be serving as your President for another term.

MiBAP’s priorities for 2024 include offering professional development opportunities and other resources to members, and, through these efforts, continuing to advocate for the best interests of Michiganders with autism and their families.

Access and Advocacy Committee Updates

The Advocacy Committee is working collaboratively with the Access Committee in developing a talking point strategy for our upcoming Advocacy Day in March. Messaging will address the following: ABA during school hours, the need for a rate increase and the need for payer administrative efficiency. Two position papers have been completed and are available for review. Talking points regarding administrative inefficiency is the lone priority to complete. Examples of administrative inefficiency (MDHHS,PIHP, CMHSP) are requested from all members. As we speak to MDHHS and Legislators, we do not want to leave any examples or solutions unspoken. Please send your examples to jeffbrown@centriahealthcare.com by January 25, 2024.  Looking forward to an exciting 2024.

Education Committee Update

The Education Committee has been busy planning webinars for 2024. The next webinar is scheduled for January 31, “Evolution of a Supervisor”. You can learn more and register below. If you are interested in joining this committee or have webinar topic ideas, please email membership@mibap.org.

Quality Committee Update

The Quality Committee has been busy collaborating with practitioners both within and outside of Michigan as it integrates the Autism Service Delivery Quality framework into its resources. Quality Committee member Jennifer Hartman, MA, BCBA, LBA, and Chief Quality Officer of North Arrow ABA will be chairing a symposium at the 2024 APBA Conference based on this work featuring Drs. Jon Bailey, Bryant Silbaugh, and Tyra Sellers. In addition, two upcoming MiBAP Webinars will be hosted by the Quality Committee, including the material from Drs. Bailey and Silbaugh. Upcoming projects include the Quality Committee developing standards and resources for quality assessments for norm-referenced skill acquisition programming and continued development of quality outcomes measures.
