From the President
As we near the end of 2023, we want to thank each and every one of you for your dedication to MIBAP. We are thrilled to see our membership grow and look forward to 2024! The MIBAP Holiday Gathering is December 15th at the Kelley Cawthorne Office in Lansing and we hope to see you all there. I would especially like to thank our board of directors and committees for all of their engagement and participation this past year. It has been an honor to serve as MIBAP’s President and I hope to continuing serving in the new year.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication!

Access and Advocacy Committee Updates
The Advocacy & Access Committees are hoping to have another joint meeting in November. These committees plan to review scheduling possible tours at sites with state representatives, and summarize the best methods to communicate a joint message for support in our three main areas impacting access to services:
- Wage review for DCW and reimbursement rates for ABA services
- ABA in schools
- Medical Parity needs for ABA services (along with SUD & medical/surgical services/treatment)
Access to services is extremely limited by access to quality providers in the state of Michigan. We need to have more competitive wages for BT/RBT level positions in the state of Michigan relative to other workforces. Additionally, limitations to time of day and location of services once a child turns 6, is limiting the ability of providers to meet medical necessity in treatment and transition planning. (this is especially significant for families who have had delays in receiving an assessment/diagnosis)
These are all areas that we are working to communicate to others and advocate for our field.
Education Committee Update
The Education Committee has been busy planning webinars for 2024. The next webinar is scheduled for December 6th, “Lunch N’ Share with MIBAP-Insurance Roundtable”. You can learn more and register below. If you are interested in joining this committee or have webinar topic ideas, please email membership@mibap.org.
Quality Committee Update
The Quality Committee continues to partner with professionals and organizations across the country, with the intent of advancing the understanding and standards of quality for Applied Behavior Analysis providers. Recently, QC consultant Dr. Bryant Silbaugh partnered with Dr. Jon Bailey to present a paper session entitled “Reclaiming the Gold Standard of Quality Control” at the Florida Association of Behavior Analysts convention. This included content relevant to the Autism Services Delivery Quality (ASDQ) Framework that has been a primary focus of the Quality Committee for the past year. Drs. Silbaugh and Bailey will be presenting this information during the MiBAP webinar on 2/28/24. Additionally, conversations with Illinois-based company The Place for ABA have begun relevant to their implementation of the ASDQ framework; their team will be presenting the MiBAP webinar scheduled on 6/26/24.
Membership Committee Update
The membership committee hosted a table at the Michigan Autism Conference. We were able to meet so many of our current members and recruit new members. We have met our new membership goal for the year and continue to work towards exceeding that goal. Thank you to everyone who volunteered at the MiBAP Booth at MAC and we look forward to seeing some new faces at our next membership meeting.
